Transitional Kindergarten

The Sioux City Community School District is excited to offer transitional kindergarten starting in the fall of 2008! Transitional kindergarten will be offered at Clark and Nodland Elementary Schools.

What is transitional kindergarten?
• It gives children another year to develop physically, socially, and academically before entering kindergarten.
• It promotes self confidence and independence in children.
• It serves as a bridge between preschool and kindergarten.
• Gives children seamless schooling as they embark on their academic careers.

How will the district’s program operate?
• Children must be five years old by September 15, 2008.
• Program will be five days a week, during the normal school day, 8:40 a.m.-3:30 p.m.
• Children are eligible for Beyond the Bell for before and after school care.
• If a child resides in the Clark or Nodland boundary and lives over two miles, they are eligible for transportation. If not, the parent is responsible for transportation.

Both classes are full for the 2008-09 school year, but a waiting list has been started for the 2009-10 school year. If you are interested in signing up your child, please contact Alison Benson at 224-7471.
