Linda Heffner Named Iowa Teacher of the Year
Fourth grade Everett Elementary School teacher Linda Heffner was named Iowa Teacher of the Year on September 23. Linda, who was the 2007 Sioux City Community School District Teacher of the Year, was personally notified of the honor by Iowa Department of Education Director Judy Jeffery.
Linda has been a teacher at
Everett for 24 years where she has served not only as a teacher,
but also a mentor, confidante and advisor for all of her students.
Those who nominated Linda for the District Teacher of the Year
stated she was "a life long learner who seeks out the best
practices in education and does what it takes to meet the academic,
social and emotional needs of her students. Linda teaches the
students for three consecutive years and data indicates that those
students have made marked academic growth… she can be found after
the last school bell in her classroom tutoring students, both past
and present. Linda also makes a point to attend past and present
student activities during the evening and weekends. She is every
student’s best advocate and cheerleader.”
Linda has a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Briar
Cliff University and a master’s degree in educational
administration from Wayne State College.
An open house will be held on September 30 from 3:45-6:00 p.m. at Everett Elementary School in honor of Linda.
