North High Ranked High in State Academic and Athletic Challenge
North
High School is ranked high in the Traveling Challenge Cup, a
year-long competition designed to recognize Iowa High School
students for academic excellence in the classroom, as well as for
outstanding achievement during athletic competition.
In
the large schools, North is ranked in 10th place out of 48 largest
Iowa high schools (Class 4A), and 18th out of the 413 high schools
in Iowa. North qualified entire teams in football, boys and girls
basketball, wrestling, girls soccer, baseball and softball.
Any
event that is sanctioned by the Iowa High School Athletic
Association and Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union is eligible
to be included. Points are awarded to the schools for participation
in post-season tournament play and individual team's academic
accomplishments, whether they participate in post-season tournament
play or not.
The school in each class that earns the most points at the end of the year will receive the traveling Challenge Cup to display for one year and then a replica will be provided to the school for permanent display. In addition, a $750.00 donation will be given to each school and shall be used towards enhancing the academic learning components that are now available within the entire school system for all students.
