SUPERINTENDENT DR. PAUL R. GAUSMAN
It is with a great deal of
excitement that I write this message to you. I began my role
as Superintendent of the
Sioux City Community Schools on July 1, and appreciate the warm
welcome from staff and community members. My family and I are
moving to the community this month, and we have found Sioux City to
be progressive, filled with pleasant people, and a great place to
live and work.
The Sioux City Community School District
has many items of which we can be proud. Our focus on literacy will
benefit students at all levels, our renewed efforts for
professional development provide a learning atmosphere for the
professionals on our team, community support for our schools gives
us a solid foundation for success, and the progressive building
campaign will ensure that all students have the opportunity to
learn in safe and instructional-focused facilities.
I have enjoyed an 18-year career in public
school education. I spent the first years of my professional career
in Nebraska, where I was a band director in school districts in the
Omaha and Lincoln areas. In 2000, my wife Suzi, children Kayah and
Trevor, and I moved to Sioux Falls, where I served as the
coordinator of fine arts and the coordinator of middle school
education for the Sioux Falls School District. I then became
superintendent of schools for the West Central School District in
South Dakota, where we experienced success as we worked on
significant challenges related to building projects, student
behavior, and student achievement. It was an easy decision to
become a part of the educational team in the Sioux City Schools, as
this progressive district is so well poised for success.
I look forward to working with you to
continue the strength of the Sioux City Community School District.
I intend to spend my first months developing relationships with
stakeholders at all levels of the community and educational
organization. I intend to work with community members, families,
staff members, and students to define an exceptional educational
program, and devise a strategic plan to move toward those
educational goals. I look forward to meeting and working with
you.
Dr. Paul R. Gausman,
Superintendent of Schools
Sioux City Community School District
